Workers in Cornwall earn almost £100 a week less than elsewhere in the UK, new research shows.
Figures from the Office of National Statistics show that while the weekly average pay in England is £441.90, in Cornwall that figure is £344.50.
Nigel Costley, regional secretary of the South West TUC, said: ’Too many families in Cornwall are blighted by low pay. Much has improved since the days of Poldark but extreme inequality remains. Good employers need to pick up the pace and adopt the real Living Wage.’
