An election ‘hustings’ is being staged for the residents of the Menheniot Ward who will go to the polls on Thursday, April 14, to elect a new Cornwall councillor. The five candidates will be at Menheniot Parish Hall on Thursday (March 31) at 7.30pm for a questionand-answer session. They are seeking to fill the vacancy left by Conservative Bernie Ellis who represented the Meheniot ward from 2009 until his death from cancer in early February. Seeking election are Phil Seeva (Conservative), the current mayor of Liskeard until his term ends in May; Duncan Odgers (UKIP); Charles Boney (LibDems); Richard Sedgley (Green Party); and Martin Menear (Lab). The Menheniot ward also takes in Dobwalls, Trewidland, St Keyne, St Pinnock and Quethiock and there are 3,086 residents eligible to vote.
