‘Feasting and foolery’ are part of the fun being planned as Liskeard gets ready to host a Cornish Christmas festival.

The town was successful in its bid to stage the event with support from Golden Tree Productions, the team which brought the Man Engine alive last year.

At the first full planning meeting for Nadelik Lyskerrys (Christmas in Liskeard), the ‘ideas were flying’.

‘We had a large group at the meeting representing 18 different organisations,’ said a town council spokesperson. ‘There was a great atmosphere with ideas flying, and groups teaming up and pooling resources to organise events.’

So far, events planned in the run- up to Christmas include:

Students at local schools learning Cornish and decorating shop windows with a Cornish theme.

A chance for traders to learn some Cornish.

A mummers play with ‘singing and foolery’.

Cornish language and carol singing sessions.

Cornish dancing workshops.

A Cornish Feast after the Lights Up parade.
