Cornwall Council has received a top national award from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) for the quality of the training the authority is providing to staff, councillors and communities. The Council was presented with the Employer Excellence Award for its training programme at a prestigious national award ceremony staged by the RTPI in London last week. The authority’s programme, which includes four main strands, aims to improve the standard of knowledge and expertise among Cornwall Council staff and members, across Cornwall and within communities, and to promote the work of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Looe councillor Edwina Hannaford, the Council’s cabinet member for planning, said: ‘We try very hard to make the planning system work for our communities and, in addition to the training programme with elected members and town and parish councils, we try to make the most of social media. We try to use all methods to myth bust.’
