LISKEARD will get a Costa coffee shop after planners voted yes by a narrow margin.

A planning application for the building of a new cafe at the Bubble Retail Park was approved on Monday by seven votes to six at the East Cornwall Planning Committee.

But members of the Town Council, which objected to the scheme, have reacted with anger to the approval.

The Town Council feels that the Costa will draw trade away from the town centre, and could result in more congestion on a roundabout which also serves the A38.

But a spokesperson for Costa’s agent, Montagu Evans, stated that the Costa would ‘not be a destination site’ in itself and that most customers to the coffee shop would already be visiting shops on the retail park.
