Plans to redevelop a leisure facility in Torpoint and build 26 new flats are a ‘bold and positive start’ to changes in the town centre, says the local council.
A scheme to demolish part of The Garden on Antony Road and create an apartment complex was approved, with conditions, by Cornwall Council.
The sports and leisure club will lose its swimming pool, squash court and restaurant, all of which are currently closed.
The new-look facility will include a refurbished gym and fitness suite, with the exterior completely redesigned.
The existing public toilets are to be knocked down and replaced by new toilets integrated within the building.
Residents of the new apartments will park in the Cornwall Council-run Antony Road car park, with a footbridge proposed to link the car park to the residential building.
