The Saltash town piper is to receive funding to the tune of £420 to purchase a new Cornish tartan kilt – providing he plays for free at civic events for the next three years.

The town council, in approving a number of applications for money from the Community Chest and Festival fund at their August meeting, also agreed £1,600 for new jackets for the town sergeant and mace bearer, along with £240 for Passport to Sport.

There was also £432 for the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance towards the cost of their concert, Remembrance Service and launch of the Poppy Day Appeal.
