THIS week’s Cornish Times edition is in the shops now and some of the articles and features inside include:

We lead with Liskeard Traders Association chair Lin Moore outlining some ideas she has for bringing new life to Liskeard town centre following the success of the recent ‘Welcome back’ day of entertainments on the Mother’s Day weekend. She would like to see parts of the town being given a sense of special identity with entrance arches, an overall roof over part of Fore Street to make it an inviting area to linger on less clement days, and an alcohol-free bar and cinema to draw young people.

People in the Looe area are being encouraged to dance their socks off in a 12-hour danceathon today (Good Friday) and donate to the town’s defibrillator appeal.

This week we have an interview with departing Liskeard School and Community College headteacher Alex Lingard in which he tells us how incredibly proud he feels about his more than 10 years at the school.

We also report on how a Liskeard church has helped to raise more than £10,000 for local people in need through a Bible-inspired website.

We also have a report on the inauguration by the Bishop of Truro of the new Priest in Charge of St Martin’s Church, Looe, the Rev Ben Morgan Lundie, whose arrival is also heralding a new grouping of parishes, with the benefices of Looe and Morval and of Duloe and Herodsfoot now working together under his direction.

You can also read about the swearing in of the new High Sheriff of Cornwall, Andrew Williams.

Meanwhile, Looe is to receive a £2.3m grant for its planned new flood defence scheme. In her Westminster column this week South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray welcomes the news, and also the Government’s funding for bus routes.

This week’s Liberal Democrat In My View column has Looe Cornwall Councillor and leader of the Lib Dems on the council criticising Conservative plans for a Cornwall Mayor as bad democracy and an unnecessary distraction from the council’s real aims of getting better funding for services.

There are lots of words and pictures about panto productions in this week’s Cornish Times – oh yes there are – including a preview of DAS Drama Group’s forthcoming show Adventures in Pantoland, and reviews of no fewer than three different productions of Cinderella in Liskeard, Rilla Mill and Menheniot.
