South East Cornwall’s Pentillie Castle is turning into ’PenGrillie’ in a hunt for barbecue champions.

The Castle, near St Mellion, is launching a one-day festival of food, music and competitive barbecue action, on July 10, from 11am to 6pm.

Twelve teams, of up to four people, are invited to compete in four classes which are designed to not only showcase local produce, but also encourage culinary creativity and flair: chicken, ribs, fish or the ultimate burger.

Adding to the fun will be event partners Skinners - with some help from Betty Stogs herself - and Mac’s BBQs as well as UK BBQ magazine.

PenGrillie is the brainchild of St Mellion and Trematon-based barbie fans Marc Megilley and Josh Hamilton, who themselves won a class in 2013 at Bristol’s renowned barbecue championship, Grillstock.

’PenGrillie is a first for the area, and it’s a great opportunity to get people involved in cooking food in a flavoursome, healthy and exciting way,’ said Josh.

The events costs £40 to enter a team, early bird entry tickets are £6 or £7.50 on the day. Kids under 12 free. For details visit www.pentillie.co.uk
