The community is to be asked by Liskeard Town Council to put forward nominations for the Honoured Burgess Awards 2017.

This is the first time the prestigious award has been put before the public.

Ten people will be required to recommend any one person they think is eligible before the council will make its decision. A nomination form is being designed.

Councillors have the discretion to award the status to more than one person.

The title of Honoured Burgess is awarded to individuals who are deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to the life of the town.

They are presented with a special medal and a certificate.

Once awarded the honour, the person concerned is invited to attend all civic occasions.

Recent awards were made to John Lennon of Liskeard Lights Up in 2015, and the late George Vaughan-Ellis, retired architect in 2016.
