STRONG winds and a choppy sea meant entrants in the Cawsand New Year Dip could not plunge into the water - but many of them did dip a toe in.
Around 100 people registered for the event and arrived at Kingsand Community Hall in fancy dress for the pre-dip judging and parade.
Organisers, the Torpoint and Rame Lions, had to cancel the swim because it was too rough to launch a safety boat, but around £3,000 was still be raised for charity.
