NEW buses for Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula were launched this morning (Thursday, February 18).

This is the final delivery of a ?£5m investment that has seen a total of 31 brand new buses for Plymouth comprising 11 that went into service on September 1, 2015 and another 20 hitting the streets at the start of 2016.

The seven new buses, Enviro 400 double deckers are being introduced on Monday, February 22 and will be operating on route 70/71. The buses will be in the new bilingual Go Cornwall Bus livery and will include the same premium features as the current Flash fleet.

This route has already seen the introduction of a new timetable on January 10 and the route has also been changed, now running via Union Street to speed up journey times between Torpoint and the city centre.

The launch of the buses took place today on board the Torpoint Ferry with members of Plymouth City Council, Torpoint Town Council and local businesses.

Richard Stevens Managing Director at Plymouth Citybus said: ’It has been a challenging 12 months, as we have stretched ourselves to meet the demands of the city and South East Cornwall; this investment has come at a great time, enabling us to deliver quality, safe and reliable value for money bus services to the people of Plymouth.’
