A FORMER Torpoint firefighter, who spent more than 20 years in the service and became the town's station commander, has written a book chronicling the first 100 years of the local service.

Brian Hobbs, who was born and still lives in the town, decided to put pen to paper.

As a station commander, he became one of five members of his wife Margaret's family who had been in charge at Torpoint, giving a total of more than 60 years of service since 1902.

Records of all retained firefighters who served in the town are detailed in the book, as are many fire calls over the years.

Brian launched his book at Torpoint Library.
