The Cornwall Market and Coastal Towns Group (CM&CTG) has appointed Edwina Arkell from Looe as a community agent. The group represents 16 Cornish towns and their surrounding parishes in the process of producing community action plans as part of the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative (MCTI). As vice chair of the Looe MCTI steering group, Edwina has first-hand experience of this process and will be assisting towns and parishes with the preparation of their own town action plans, while helping them to develop project ideas. Edwina will be developing capacity, supporting and providing networking opportunities, providing strategic representation and the delivery of best practice. Her current roles as a town and district cllr gives her an insight into the workings of local government, especially important with the changes and challenges that a unitary council for Cornwall will bring. 'There is an optimistic buzz in Cornwall at the moment and real opportunities are being offered to improve the lives of Cornish citizens while building a certain economic future,' said Edwina. 'Part of my role will be to help CM&CTG members grasp those opportunities.' Edwina is an accredited mentor with the rural excellence programme, sponsored by the Improvements and Development Agency, and for the last 20 years has run a successful Cornwall- based graphic design and marketing business.
