THE creation of a Lidl store in Saltash took a step closer after plans received backing from town councillors. At their full council meeting in the town's Guildhall, councillors voted to support the scheme based near the Pillmere estate. But the decision was not backed by all members with a 6-5 vote in favour of the scheme. Saltash town and district councillor Sue Hooper said the town council's backing came from the details of the scheme brought before them. She said the company had increased the amount of information available to the council from the last application, including a number of new travel projects. 'The Highways Agency felt that the latest plan ticked the boxes from their point of view as they are offering to pay for road improvements and a green travel plan,' she said.
