A NEW gin liqueur is being blended in East Cornwall to celebrate a special birthday – and the public are being asked to come up with its name.

Pairing hedgerow blackberrry and elderflower, the new liqueur is being crafted to mark the 25th anniversary of the Tamar Valley’s designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Also being brewed up for the occasion, which will take place in August, is a new ale – and while the beer has been dubbed Ale ONB (Ale of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the gin liqueur does not yet have a name.

Monarch Liqueurs are kindly offering a prize of a bottle of the new gin liqueur to the person that comes up with the winning name chosen for the new drink.

Ideas should be emailed by Monday June 22 to [email protected] with ‘Gin Liqueur Name’ in the subject box.

While the gin liqueur will go on sale from the end of June, Ale ONB, which is being made at the Bere Brewery in Bere Alston, will be available at the brewery from June 24.

Charlotte Dancer of the Tamar Valley AONB team said: ’A Taste the Tamar event had been planned for mid-June to celebrate the great variety of Tamar Valley produce - offering tastings, speakers and workshops, and opportunities to buy.

’This event, where the beer and gin liqueur would have been launched, had to be postponed, but we look forward to the time when we can gather together safely again and celebrate our local produce in all its glory.’
