Westbourne Gardens in Liskeard will be closed for three or four days from tomorrow (January 31) while a much-loved tree is felled.
Officials say they are only carrying out the work ‘with regret’.
CORMAC tree teams (on behalf of Cornwall Council) are removing the very large, over mature Monterey pine at southern end of the park, next to the site entrance.
Tree inspector Matthew Odgers-Brown said: ‘This tree has been inspected, and is in considered to be in decline, the canopy/needle cover is thinning and the tree has suffered several large limb failures in the recent past.
‘With remaining major limbs above site paths and the edge of highway, the decision to remove this tree has been made.
‘The value of this feature tree is appreciated by officers, and the decision to fell was made with regret.’
Replacement planting will be completed by the end of March.
