RESTRICTIONS and closures on the A38 at Saltash could cause significant delays for motorists while work on improvements to the Carkeel Roundabout takes place.

The works at the busy location are due to last from later this month into May.

The £3.27m Highways Agency project is aimed at improving the flow of traffic through the roundabout and also includes the construction of a footbridge across the A38. Temporary speed limits of 30mph will be in place on the A38.

Overnight closures will also take place when the bridge is put into place.

There will be times during the works when vehicles will not be permitted to access the B3271 Callington Road from the roundabout.

This and all other restrictions and closures will be clearly marked by traffic signs, said a spokesperson for the Highways Agency.

Diversion routes during the closures, via Callington Road, the B3271, Burraton Road and Liskeard Road will be well signed, the spokesperson added.

The Highways Agency is advising motorists to allow extra time when planning their journeys via the roundabout.
