A Looe man who parachuted into Normandy on D-Day has been awarded the Legion d’honneur medal for his role in the liberation of France.

Arthur Simpson, 93, was a member of 5 Parachute Brigade in the Second World War.

The Legion d’honneur medal is bestowed on veterans by the French Government to recognised ‘military engagement and steadfast involvement in the liberation of France’.
