Plymouth Argyle announced late on Sunday evening that they had parted company with Head of Football and First Team Manager Derek Adams.
The Pilgrims said in a statement that ’by mutual consent’ Adams had been relieved of his duties.
Assistant manager Paul Wotton, a very popular former player, has also left the club. Kevin Nancekivell will take temporary charge.
Adams’ dismissal came after Argyle’s disastrous 5-1 defeat at Accrington Stanley on Saturday, which dropped the Greens into a relegation place in League One.
They now need to beat Scunthorpe in their last game of the season at Home Park on Saturday and hope other results go in their favour, if they are to avoid the drop to League Two.
