CALLINGTON'S film shows have received a boost with a grant to help buy new equipment. A National Lottery Awards for All grant of around £3,600 has helped the town council buy a digital projector, a big screen, a sound upgrade and a box which transmits TV channels or videos on to the screen. The film shows, which are organised by the council, are proving to be popular among children in the town. However, adult attendance has been low with only one person turning up to April's show. 'The sound equipment has made a great improvement on Saturdays,' said portreeve Denise Winfindale. 'It is now up to the town hall and premises committee to see if they can bring more people into the film shows.' The portreeve said that the committee was looking into showing more specialist films in the evenings. 'The children's shows are very well attended, we just perhaps need to let people around the town know that this is a facility for them to use,' she said. Through sponsorship from local groups, entry for the children's film shows will be free from May. The Lions Club of Callington, Callington Rotary, Callington Town Forum and T Burnard and Sons have all given cash to make this possible. The next film show will be held on May 20.
