SALTASH May Fair has been declared a huge success. The committee was congratulated by deputy mayor Joe Ellison at the annual meeting at the SHADO centre. Chairman Peter Stephens, who was re-elected with the other officers and the committee, said the fun run had attracted a record number of 350 and there were more than 70 stalls in Fore Street on the Saturday. He thanked Saltash Town Council for its donation of £1,000, Caradon for its grant of £200 and former mayor Sue Hooper for donating £200 from her Mayor's Charity Fund. He said the May Fair Committee could not donate any money to charities this year as they had to put money back into the fund to help finance next year's May Fair. He also thanked all who had helped organise this year's event and to the contributors in the May Fair programme especially to Marjorie Schikowsky for the many poems she had submitted over the years. Mr Stephens said they still needed help especially over the May Fair weekend, so if there are some young and energetic people who could give some of their time, the committee would be pleased to hear from them. Anyone interested should call Peter Stephens on (01752) 846597 or go to the next meeting on September 19 at the Maurice Huggins Rooms, Victoria Gardens, at 7.30pm.
