Limpets' lunch

THE Looe Limpets held their first lunch of the year at Tom Sawyers, Hannafore, on Wednesday last, with Chief Limpet, Fred Leese, presiding. A vote of thanks to host John Evans and his colleagues for their usual warm welcome, was given by Limpet Colin.

For the RNLI

A coffee morning in aid of the Looe branch of the RNLI is taking place at the Guildhall, East Looe, on Saturday next February 17, from 10am-12noon. Admission is 50p which includes coffee and biscuits, and there will be souvenir, book, cakes and bric-a-brac stalls plus a raffle.

Christian Aid

THE annual general meeting of Looe and District Christian Aid Committee is to take place at the Riverside United Church, West Looe on Monday, February 12, at 10.30am. This is an open meeting to which all are welcome.

Start the

day right

STUDENTS and staff at Looe School will soon be able to tuck into bacon rolls, soup and hot drinks at the beginning of the day, courtesy of the Breakfast Club, which has been resurrected by popular request. Breakfasts will be served between 8am-8.30am each day.

The school is also reducing the number of fizzy and caffeine enriched drinks on offer, by the installing of new vending machines for flavoured water and hot drinks.

A forward date for everyone's diaries is the Great Cornish Raft Race, a much looked forward to event on Looe's busy summer calendar, and organised by the Looe and Polperro Chamber of Commerce, which has been fixed this year for Sunday, June 3.

There will also be entertainment on the Saturday, in a large marquee on the Millpool, including a table top sale, and a family disco and karaoke with the ever popular Firebirds International, plus licensed bar.

annual meeting

THE Looe branch of the South East Cornwall Conservative association held its AGM at the Portbyhan Hotel, West Looe on wednesday February 7. The chairman, Mr Roy Hogg, in his opening address welcomed the some 40 members present and especially Colonel Patrick Hall, chairman of the South East Cornwall Conservative association. Mr Hogg went on to state that last year had been very successful for the Looe branch and that a number of social events had been arranged which helped to exceed the financial targets set for the branch.

Colonel hall, in his address stated that the association had now achieved a membership of approaching 1000 and as the party was now gearing up for a general election, this bode well for the forthcoming support of the party and its prospective parliamentary candidate, Ashley Grey, who had made a significant impact on his potential constituency on a number of important matters. He also thanked the Looe branch for being the most successful in the constituency for its fundraising activities. He introduced Mrs Pat Thatcher who has been appointed election agent for the forthcoming election.

The officers for the forthcoming year were elected as follows: chairman, Roy Hogg; treasurer, Cmdr S Garbutt; secretary, Mrs Elaine Hogg; auditor, Mr Gordon Tilley. Programme for the forthcoming year includes 12 social functions as well as the usual ladies luncheon club meetings.

Roy Hogg thanked Cmdr and Mrs Garbutt, Mr and Mrs J Shearsmith and Mrs M Childs for their fundraising activities in the past year.

Fun playtimes

THE parents and children of West Looe Playgroup would like to thank everyone who came to their bazaar and coffee morning on Saturday last, their generosity raising £344 .

The money is to be spent on new play equipment for the playgroup's outdoor recreation area.
