Festival goers and local residents at this year’ Looe Live! event will be swapping single use plastic cups for re-usable ones as pubs and restaurants in the town are encouraged to get behind the organiser’s ‘Go Green’ initiative.

Thanks to sponsorship from Cornish Collection, Plastic Free Looe and Looe Live!, 20,000 re-usable cups will be provided and will be for sale for £1 each during the event later this month.

A key part of the festival’s environment policy is to reduce the use of single use plastics by encouraging the use of re-usable cups, paper straws and cardboard packaging for food takeaways.

Amelia Bridges, Community Lead for Plastic Free Looe said: ‘These cups are key in ensuring that the Looe Live! festival is as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. By having establishments serve drinks in re-usable containers, we are directly stopping tens of thousands of single-use plastic cups either being incinerated or ending up floating around in our oceans. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from the pubs and restaurants who are committed to doing the right thing.’

As well as providing free re-usable cups to local businesses, festival organisers are also offering a free collection service for any single-use cups taking up space in their premises so they can be disposed of responsibly. For more information email [email protected],
