“ALL is Calm, All is Bright in beautiful Looe” said resident Kerin McIntosh Cooper after taking photos of the harbourside and bridge Christmas lights which are illuminating the river and the town centre.

While no crowds were gathered around the quay to do the countdown this year, the Town Council is planning a countdown of a different kind to bring a little fun and laughter this month.

The “Twelve Days of Christmas” are set to begin tomorrow (Saturday December 12) and will feature competitions, quizzes, jokes, videos and photos sent in by groups and individual people from the town and posted online.

“We’re encouraging all our businesses and residents to post their photos, songs, Tik Toks or Christmas messages,” said town clerk Mel Colton-Dyer.

“The Reverend Philip Sharp has already agreed he’ll be telling some Christmas jokes and there’ll be choirs doing pieces that will be posted.”

Meanwhile, a last call has gone out for nominations for Secret Santa gifts in the town. All children up to the age of 11 living in the parish are entitled to a present this year – and nominations can also be made for a surprise gift for adults living in Looe. Santa will be visiting streets in the town very soon. To find out more and register a nomination visit www.looetowncouncil.gov.uk/
