In this week’s Cornish Times we lead with the story of six-year-old Merryn Handley. This time last year she was in the midst of treatment following surgery to remove a brain tumour. Her family say they are looking forward to spending a more normal Christmas Day together this year – and as Merryn stars in a campaign for the charity CLIC Sargent, they pay tribute to how much the charity’s staff helped them through the toughest times imaginable.

Inside the paper – if you’ve ever fancied a go at being a radio presenter, find out about the community radio station that has grown through the pandemic to become a “real gem” with a diverse offering of music and shows. Liskeard Radio is going full time and wants YOU!

We also hear from Looe, where a meals on wheels scheme set up informally by a community-minded pub is now going to expand with government funding.

And over in Polperro there was a surprise celebrity video message and a trophy in store for the couple that runs the newsagent in the village.

There’s certainly a lot of sparkle and good cheer in this week’s Cornish Times: we publish greetings sent in by readers and local businesses, as well as a guide to some of the festive events taking place in South East Cornwall. We have photos from Liskeard Wesley Church’s Christmas events and initiatives, and there’s advice suited to this time of year on how to look after your health, your home and your pennies!

We bring you results of recent cases heard at the Magistrates Courts, readers’ letters and the political comment columns.

In the packed Sport section this week, there’s in-depth match reporting and interviews following Millbrook’s triumph against Bashley in the Buildabase FA Vase. The Cornish Times bring you lots more of the local football coverage you won’t find anywhere else, along with news on Golf, Hockey, Point to Point and the Exeter Chiefs.

As well as this look out for Farming News, Recipes, Antiques, and Ray Roberts’ wonderful Nature Watch page.
