Hopes on road
signs for town
The news has been welcomed by the Tory's Parliamentary spokesman for the area Ashley Gray, who has been campaigning to put Liskeard and other towns on the map.
At the moment there is just one small sign for Liskeard seven miles before Plymouth and none on the A30 or the M5. Mr Gray says he is delighted that the Highways Agency has taken the campaign for proper signing seriously.
'They have rightly recognised that there is an anomaly regarding signing for Liskeard as a primary destination,' he said.
Mr Gray added that it was now up to businesses, chambers of commerce and local people in South East Cornwall to put their case directly to the Highways Agency in Exeter.
'Route managers have assured me that they will look in detail at the arguments put forward for improvements to navigational information on the A38,' he said
He said anyone wanting to write to the Highways Agency should address correspondence to The Route Manager, NCS Area 1, B12, Falcon Road, Sowton, Exseter, EX2 7LB.
Liskeard's Chamber of Commerce will be equally delighted that the matter of signing is to be addressed. Members have brought the subject up on several occasions and were particularly annoyed that Cornwall-bound traffic was being directed onto the A30 at Exeter with no mention made of Liskeard and other local towns.
Duloe
appeal
A REFUSAL by Caradon council of a planning application for a site at Churchbridge Cottage, Duloe, has led to an appeal.
The appeal, by Mr and Mrs J Slater, will be dealt with by the written representation method.
Group looks for
more volunteers
THE Callington-based Cats Protection who hold regular fundraising sales in the Long Room, Liskeard, are looking for some more volunteer helpers.
The next two sales are scheduled for the Saturdays, November 4 and December 2.

The organisation will also be among the stallholders in the Public Hall at the Lions' St Matthews Day Fair, on Saturday next, October 7, from 2pm.
They will have new goods, bric-a-brac, books and crafts for sale, and will also be pleased to receive donations of cat food.
Seagulls problem
debated again
THE perennial question of seagulls was once again highlighted at the recent monthly meeting of Liskeard Town Council.
Members said they were anxious that plans for dealing with the local seagull problem should be put into place before the next breeding season.
A letter was read from an expert, based at Newquay, who deals with seagulls, through proofing roofs etc, and quotes were given.
It was decided that the matter should be discussed at the council's next finance committee meeting.
Cattle market
on agenda
LISKEARD Chamber of Commerce will be holding their monthly meeting at the Lord Eliot Hotel on Monday, October 2, at 7.30pm.
A Caradon officer will be present to discuss the future of the Cattle Market, and Chamber secretary Jane Pascoe emphasised it was important that all members attend.
Trading arrangements for Christmas will also be on the agenda.
