LISKEARD in bloom received a gold medal at the South West in Bloom awards ceremony. The team attended the ceremony in Crewkerne on October 13 competing against Ivybridge, Crediton, Bovey Tracy and Dartmouth.

The displays which the In Bloom judges visited in July received a gold medal, some of the judges said: “The standard of horticultural displays was excellent and some of the best we have seen.

“Planting was well thought out and colour coordinated in the royal colours of purple and gold.

“The route (that the judges took) was exceptionally clean, weed free and clear of litter.

“This was a well organised and active Bloom group run by enthusiastic volunteers with the support of the mayor, and both the town and county council”

John Hesketh from Liskeard’s volunteer gardeners was also able to announce the result of the first peoples choice award by Liskeard in Bloom. A survey was carried out to see which display was the most popular. The Fountain monument on Fore Street, owned by the town council, won the award.

John said: “We thank all our enthusiastic hard working volunteers who make it happen, our business customers and sponsors who fund our work and all our residents who stop to talk and keep us going through rain, ice, and the blazing sun”

“Huge congratulations to Liskeard in Bloom and well deserved! Their volunteers work so very hard to make our town look amazing year after year and we are so greatful” Cllr Simon Cassidy commented.
