In 1978 I bought an Austin 18/6 Chalfont Saloon Car Reg. JY9331 from a scrapyard in Call-ington, Cornwall.
The reason being was purely nostalgic as this car was used as a taxi in Callington in the fifties and I rode in it and remembered it well. When I bought it, it was in a very sorry state and I have restored it to its former glory and it is now used all the time.
Recently it was shown on Carlton T.V. in a programme called Century, introduced by Ron Bendle and the number plate and the car was clearly shown.
This has prompted me to write to you, as we would very much like to build up a history of the car since it was 'born' in 1935 and thought that as it was local there must be people out there with pictures of JY, when it was used as a wedding car etc.
I wonder if any of your readers know about the history of the car, and I would be grateful if they could write and let me know.
Have enclosed a picture of the car as it is now, taken a few years ago at a friend's wedding. We re-sprayed it in the Austin Maroon colour with black wings etc., but originally it was all black.
