WE hear so often these days people saying that they will not be voting in the next General Election. Those same people tend to say 'politicians are all the same - tarred by same brush' or 'they are only in it for what they can get out of it for themselves'. It is very wrong to speak of all those who seek to represent in this manner. I have been involved in politics, at a grassroots level, for many years and have had the pleasure to meet many of various persuasions and am firmly convinced that most of those who seek to represent us are doing what they are doing because they earnestly believe like Edmund Burke of old that 'It is necessary only for good people to do nothing for evil to triumph'. So may I suggest that all you good people out there, before the election is called, and before the showbusiness begins, make a real effort to find out if the person who wishes to represent you is honest and sincere, and not just seeking the limelight for its own sake. When you are quite sure in your own mind of his or her sincerity please go out and do your little something. This nation of ours was once a proud democracy but it is fast slipping into becoming an elected dictatorship. It's not yet too late to check the drift - but almost!
