In this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday), we lead with a warning from Devon and Cornwall Police that drug dealers are targeting vulnerable people and using them as guinea pigs to test out dangerous new Ecstasy tablets before putting them on general sale.

Officers say the pink tablets, known as Milly’s, have been circulating in the Liskeard and Callington areas and the drug can make some users suicidal.

The news comes at a time when a drugs warrant was executed at an address in Liskeard, and Callington police have warned of the need for vigilance over County Lines operations after receiving numerous complaints about suspicious and antisocial behaviour.

In other news, a new world record has been set by a Liskeard runner in the London Marathon – find out what the new record is, as well as details about the achievements of other men and women from South East Cornwall who took part.

Meanwhile, an auction of items connected with the famous author Daphne du Maurier attracted interest from all over the world and saw her typewriter selling for more than 40 times the auctioneers’ original estimate.

A pub landlord has raised over £9,000 for charity with a head shave, and TV personalities Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan have raised £20,000 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance at a seven-course lunch they hosted locally.

We also have pictures of local community champions who have been honoured by Liskeard Town Council, a woman in the town who has celebrated her 100th birthday, and others from the launch of the new Looe Valley Line Heritage Project, an exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of the Torpoint Archives, and a beach clean undertaken by local people in Polperro.

As well as lots of your community news and pictures, this week’s edition also features a 12-page guide to the forthcoming Devon County Show (including a chance to win tickets to the show), an eight-page South East Cornwall Spring-Summer Events Special pull-out, 10 pages of Sport, and our regular columns including Ray Roberts’ Nature Watch, Letters, Recipe of the Week, TV Choice and latest Books.

There is all this and more in this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday).
