Roman Catholic Bishop of Plymouth, the Rt Reverend Christopher Budd, made history when he visited the Saltash Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Angels on Sunday to celebrate Mass. The Bishop also gave the address, in St Nicholas and St Faith Church of England Church at Saltash, where the Roman Catholic congregation has been holding services for the past few months, since the closing on the Catholic Church in the town last March. The congregation is waiting for a new church to be built near the site of the former building. The original church was in former days part of the Convent of the Good Shepherd, but after the Roman Catholic Church in another part of the town was bombed during the last war, the Convent Chapel was used for services for the congregation. Due to the poor state of the building it was decided to demolish it and build a new church nearby. Plans for the were presented to the congregation recently and now awaiting planning permission to start building.. Canon Richard Maynard, Team Rector of St Nicholas and St Faith Church offered the use of St Nicholas and St Faith Church until the new one is ready for use. The Roman Catholic Service is held between the Church of England 8am and 10 am services, at 8.45am each Sunday. So the church bells ring as the one congregation leaves and the next one arrives.
