A show of strength from local truckers has raised more than £1000 for a heartfelt appeal.
A team of ten from DJ Wills Haulage, Lanreath, and Steve Wills Haulage, Looe, showed what they were made of by pulling an 8.5 tonne lorry at the Cornwall Truck Show.
The strong men and women were competing for Forever Fred Precious Moments, an appeal set up by Liskeard couple Joanne and Colin Smith after the loss of their baby, Fred Neale Smith. The appeal is raising money for the Snowdrop Room in Derriford Hospital’s maternity unit.
While the local team lost out in the end to a Devon contender, the main winner was the good cause, which has received £1012 from the event at the last count said Joanne.
Supporter Dave Glover gave the crowds a spectacular demonstration of muscle power with two solo truck pulls over the weekend. After pulling an 8.6 tonne truck on the Saturday, he went one better the following day by pulling a 12.5 tonne truck single-handed.
