Residents of Millbrook have heard that they will keep a doctors’ surgery in their village after all, if plans set out by a local practice go ahead.

The surgery closed on June 30, and most of its patients have since registered with the Rame Group Practice, which operates out of the new Pentorr Health Centre in Torpoint and at Coombe End in Cawsand.

Having stepped into the breach on a temporary basis over the past two months by laying on extra surgery times at Cawsand, the Rame Group now hopes to re-establish GP services in Millbrook. The practice carried out a survey of its patients on the Rame Peninsula, asking them which site they would prefer, Cawsand or Millbrook, and most plumped for Millbrook, with its bigger facilities and access to a pharmacy.

Simon Ryan, chairman of the Millbrook-based Peninsula Trust, said that the Rame Group is now proposing to amalgamate its services into the Millbrook building by early 2017, providing adequate IT systems can be installed. The Coombe End branch surgery in Cawsand will close.
