THIS year the NHS celebrates its 70th birthday and Derriford Hospital chiefs have organised an open day to mark the occasion.
The event takes place at Derriford Centre for Health and Well-being on Saturday, June 16, 10am to 2pm.
Some services will be showing what health care was like in the past, how it is now and what it might look like in the future.
On show will be equipment used in health care in decades past, including devices used to test your hearing. Changes in roles such as those of nurses and therapists since the NHS first started will be explored. The event includes chances to step into a modern operating theatre, view library collections, discover more about blood and the history of microscopy, and find out how research has changed. Visitors will also be able to try their hand at delivering a mock baby.
A careers fair at the #NHS70 Open Day will enable people to find out more about opportunities available.
