A Liskeard man who has been giving blood for more than 45 years says he is frustrated that he can’t donate in his own town.

Wendell Craze, 72, gave blood for the 70th time last week – but went to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth to do it, where there is free parking at the Blood Donor Centre.

Wendell says he used to give blood in Liskeard, but after the sessions in the Public Hall ceased to run, it has been more difficult.

‘They haven’t run donor sessions in Liskeard for about 18 months,’ he said.

‘I’ve spoken to several donors in Liskeard who tell me they’re finding it difficult to get transport out to the nearest session, which is in Pensilva.

‘If the NHS is asking more people to give blood, then why don’t they start in Liskeard again?’
