On Wednesday and Thursday, June 22 and 23, almost 3,000 young people from 102 schools in Devon and Cornwall will take to the specially made track at Newquay Airport for this year’s Greenpower South West Regional Heat, in partnership with Cornwall College.

Greenpower is an educational project which takes place across the UK, encouraging primary and secondary school children to get into engineering and technology by designing, building and racing electric cars.

More than 70 primary schools will take part in the Goblin car race on the Wednesday, the culmination of building a ‘kit car’ over the last few months, while 30 secondary school teams will race larger Formula 24s on the Thursday which can reach 40mph.

A STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Fair will run alongside the main races showcasing Cornwall College’s own interactive activities alongside invited organisations.
