A giant mural, depicting the history and organisations of Liskeard, is now adorning the wall of the town's library, after being officially opened last Thursday.

The 'ribbon' to the mural, which took two years to complete, was cut by a former mayoress of the town, Christine Pampling, who was chosen to carry out the honours following a ballot.

Artist June Cole completed the 25' by 13' mural with the help of artists Sarah Ellis, Catherine Hicks and Emily Cole. Assistance was also given by local historian, John Rapson, and Liskeard groups and residents who contacted June regarding events in the town's past. Community liaison officer for the library, Anne Dingle, planned the mural with June, and said it was the most exciting project she had ever been involved with.

She praised the high standard of workmanship and added: 'The mural really brings Liskeard alive because the local community has chosen what has been included.'

The Town Forum put £400 towards the £500 cost of the mural.
