A confused German holidaymaker made to pay £40 as he waited in a hotel car park for a delivery lorry to pass, after accidently driving down a restricted street, has promised to return to Cornwall after Looe Town Council refunded the money.

The Claremont Hotel in Polperro charged Michael Oppenheim £40, in line with its policy, and has stood by its decision.

There is a sign at the hotel's car park entrance, which is close to the public turning circle, stating a charge of £40 will be levied to non-hotel guests for parking and turning.
