Liskeard’s firefighters are letting their moustaches grow for ‘Movember’ - and they hope that everyone in the town will join them.

The happily hairy crew say that during the fundraising month they’ll be trying out various looks including the ‘trucker’ moustache, the ‘businessman’ and maybe even the curly ‘connoisseur’.

Movember is a nationwide appeal and awareness campaign for various men’s issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and suicide risk.

The fire station in Liskeard will be hosting a special Movember event on November 29. There’ll be the chance for anyone who has grown a moustache to have their photo taken with a firefighter’s helmet on for the station’s ‘rogues gallery’.

Guests at the station on the day will include representatives from The Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer, Cornwall Man Down, First Light domestic and sexual violence support group and the Tamar area Prostate Support Group.

The firefighters have also put out a challenge for women, and a spokesperson said: ‘We also want you Mo-sistas to join our team.

‘Obviously you will have trouble growing a moustache so we want you to walk, run or crawl 60km within the month to represent the 60 men that commit suicide across the world every hour.’
