An elderly woman is fighting for her life after a collision on the A38 this morning.

Highways England said that a car had left the carriageway and gone down an embankment between the Carkeel roundabout and Notter Bridge.

A police spokesperson said: ’One vehicle left the road and come to stop in a ditch on its side.

’A female in her 80s was taken to Derriford with potentially life-threatening injuries.’

The road was re-opened at around 2pm having been shut for several hours in both directions, and traffic remains heavy in the area.
