Cornwall College is holding Chef Clubs aimed at young cooks aged between nine and 16, which started at the weekend.

At the Saltash, St Austell and Camborne campuses, the clubs will be divided into ‘mini’ for children aged nine-12 and ‘junior’ for 13- to 16-year-olds.

The clubs will offer professional training from college staff.

Grant Mather, of the college, said: ‘We were overwhelmed by the enormous response of people wanting to get their children into one of these clubs. We just knew we had to do it again.

The workshops are designed to be fun, while at the same time delivering key skills for creative and safe cooking in the kitchen.

‘Our catering staff had a great time and are looking forward to teaching these chefs of the future.  It’s going to be a really exciting, hands-on, fun experience.’

Both clubs end with a feast, where parents, guardians and invited guests can see what the students have produced and taste the fruit of their labours.
