Cornwall Council says the vast majority of Year 6 primary school children in Cornwall will be going to their preferred secondary school in September 2017, with 97.8% of pupils being allocated their first preference school. 

The Council received 5,426 applications by the national deadline for secondary school places in Cornwall for September 2017.  5,308 (97.8 %) pupils have been allocated a place at their first preference school and 5,384 (99.2%) pupils have been allocated a place in one of their three preferred schools. 

The council says staff are closely monitoring the pressure on primary school places which is expected to start affecting secondary schools from 2018 onwards.
