Dobwalls U-14s make it 'a double'
Dobwalls under 14s completed a very successful season with three wins in four days to complete the double.
On the Thursday they met Biscovey in the league and recorded a 2-0 win in a very difficult game. Andy Sheer scored a goal in each half, giving Dobwalls a good psychological victory as they would be meeting Biscovey in the Cup final three days later.
On the Friday Dobwalls travelled to Bodmin to face Mount knowing that a win would seal the championship. The first half was an absolute disaster for Dobwalls as they never really got into the game and Mount went in at half time with a two goal lead.
After some stern talk and a few changes at half time Dobwalls came out in a more determined mood and completely turned the game around. Andy Sheer who came on in the second half scored early on to give Dobwalls some inspiration and from then on they completely dominated the game, Andy Sheer completed his hat trick to put Dobwalls ahead and then centre half Jamie Robins popped up in the box to score from close range, with time running out Andy Sheer got his fourth of the game with a superb free kick to record an excellent 5-2 win and seal the championship.
Two days later Dobwalls made the coach trip to Roche to face Biscovey in the Cup final and gained a very convincing 5-0 victory to win the double for the second year running.
Dobwalls got off to a good start when skipper Adam Billing fired in from 25 yards. This goal allowed Dobwalls to relax a bit more and they began to settle down and play some good football. Goal number two came after a slick move down the left involving several players. Andy Sheer then crossed in for Mike Ruark to finish confidently from six yards. Half time came with Dobwalls still leading 2-0.
In the second half Dobwalls pushed forward looking for an early goal hoping to demoralise the opposition and the plan worked when Sam Hocking headed in from a corner. Dobwalls completely dominated the game after that and they rapped up the game with two superb strikes one from Adam Billing which flew into the net giving the keeper no chance, then Jamie Robins fired in from the edge of the box with another unstoppable shot.
Dobwalls thoroughly deserved their success staying unbeaten for the whole season and only dropping two points. This was only made possible by having such a strong squad who all deserve a mention. They are Robin Brown, Chris Southern, Jamie Robins, Sam Hocking, Mark Gliddon, Alex Martin, Luke Johnson, Adam Billing, Alex Lindsay, Tom Haverson, Ben Satterly, Andy Sheer, Craig Walton, Mike Ruark, Adam Runnalls, Bas Hocking and Mike Mc Carthy.
The Club would like to thank all the parents for their support and all the players for their commitment throughout the season. Thanks also to The Lions Club, LILW. (Enclosures) Ltd and Caradon District Council for their sponsorship also thanks to the Senior Club, The Hotel Nebula and the Fountain Hotel.
Dobwalls will be holding their presentation night on Friday 18 June 1999 at the Lord Elliot Hotel starting at 8pm where we look forward to seeing all the club members and families for which promises to be a good night.
