Brave fundraisers will be seeing in 2020 with a splash as they take part in New Year’s Day dips around South East Cornwall.

In Looe, the RNLI is staging its dip off East Looe Beach at 11am, and there is no need to register beforehand, say organisers. Fancy dress is optional but encouraged, and the volunteer crew and lifeboat will be on hand throughout the event. With the best place to spectate either the beach, the pier, or anywhere elevated in town, participants will be wading, splashing or swimming out to the marker before heading back in for hot drinks and biscuits at the boathouse.

Over in Polperro, dippers will be heading for the water at 12 noon to raise money for the RNLI and the Cornwall Air Ambulance - and some people may even do the ‘double dip’ at both Looe and Polperro.

Meanwhile in Cawsand, creative costumes are always a sight to see as the Torpoint and Rame Lions Club hold their New Year’s Day dip on the shore. A procession of participants from the village hall and the judging of costume entries will precede the swim at 12.30pm.

We’ll be featuring photos from the dips in this week’s edition of the Cornish Times, out on Friday!
