A Saltash father will be running in the Plymouth half marathon to help raise awareness of a rare medical condition that his young daughter was recently diagnosed with.

Sam Renfrew will run the half marathon on May 19 in aid of Polymicrogyria Family Support. Sam’s eighteen month old daughter, Molly, was diagnosed with polymicrogyria last August just before her first birthday.

Often referred to as PMG, it is a condition that affects the development of the brain before birth. Symptoms include seizures, delayed development, problems with speech and swallowing and muscle weakness or paralysis.

After Molly was diagnosed her family were keen to meet other families affected by the condition. They reached out to Polymicrogyria Family Support, a charity who raise awareness of the condition and provide practical and emotional support to improve the lives of affected families.
