Cricket- Wickham Wines Complementary Cup

Looe v Tideford

In a Second round Wickham Wines knock out trophy match between East Cornwall sides Looe and Tideford on Sunday, 14 year old David Bradbeer from Quethiock took the wickets of four senior Looe players in consecutive balls. Tideford won by 8 wickets and progress to the next round. The first of Bradbeer's victims was opener Pete Nance, bowled by the juniors first ball. On the fifth ball of his second over John Shepley was stumped; then Shepley's son holed out to the Tideford captain in the covers. In Bradbeer's next over the first ball removed A Nicholas stumped by Mark Lister and the second clean bowled Farley for a duck. Bradbeer went on to remove the remaining Looe players and ended with 8 overs, 2 maidens, 8 wickets for 11 runs. The only other wicket credited to a bowler came with a brilliant diving catch at backward point by David's seventeen year old brother Sandy.

Winning the toss Looe elected to bat and got off to a flying start reaching 40 after eight overs. But the introduction of Bradbeer immediately changed the course of the game.

Tideford's reply started steadily with Danny Copp and Gerald Burn putting on 33 for the first wicket. Both were then out in quick succession leaving Mark Lister to guide Tideford safety home. Simon Farley bowled a testing spell of 8 overs for 6 runs taking the wicket of Burn. Tideford go through to meet either Veryan or Trevone in the quarter final.

Tideford completed a memorable weekend having scored 433 in 48 overs on Saturday to set a new Cornish record against the Newquay team Colan. Tideford Cricket Club plays on the Port Eliot Estate, home of the Earl of St Germans. A
