Callington v Falmouth
Falmouth elected to bat first, and Callington enjoyed early success when Larry Martin was caught behind by Nick White off Andy Brenton. Sean Hooper, Keith Meneer and Sean Turner all went cheaply and after 20 overs Falmouth were rocking on 49-4.
However, Steve Williams was still there, and he and Rob Ecclestone put on 83 for the five wicket with Ecclestone contributing 45. Williams carried his bat from start to finish, making an unbeaten 71 and Falmouth crept up to 176 for six, to set a tricky target. Brenton was the best bowler with three for three.
In reply, Callington lost both spinners early on, but then John Sylvester and Andy Hocking steadied things with a small stand of 33 before Sylvester was bowled by Dave Angove for 25. Hocking went on to make 58, but the only other batsmen to register double figures was from Nicholls with 11. The lower order had no reply to the guile of veteran spinner Dave Toseland, and he took five wickets for just 23 runs off his 13 overs. In the end Callington were all out for 113, a disappointing 63 runs short.
