Cricket- County Four (East)
Looe v Liskeard
On a day when first impressions of the cricket proved to be right, on winning the toss Looe elected to bat.
Some tight bowling early on from Rowe and Vince kept the runs down but never really troubled the batsmen, who looked in good shape. They were beginning to cut loose, aided by some ordinary bowling coupled with poor catching ability allowed them to put together and opening stand of 239, Peter Nance reaching the ton mark first with some excellent batting taking him to a final total of 144. He was eventually the only batsmen to fall to Rowe.Jon Nance ended a fine innings on 104 not out, with the total 279 for one.
Liskeard started what they knew would be a long, hard chase but they never realistically looked like achieving this massive total and at 36 for three, this looked impossible, and they were certainly not helping themselves, with some bad shots. Dave Skews joined Tim Hyslop and tried to up the scoring a little to give it some respectability, with some fine stroke play by both batsmen.
They put on 107 before Tim went for a gritty 57, with Skews ending on 53 not out. The total of 150 for four proved that it was a batsmen's wicket, and neither side had the bowling know-how to trouble the order batsmen on this sort of wicket.
