Cricket- County Division Six (East)- Rain checks St Neot in their for victory

St Neot v Werrington III

After the showers of Saturday morning it came as a bit of a shock to the Tavemers and even more Werrington that the game was still on.

The toss was made and St. Neot led by their captain A. Kent went out to field. It was down to the inform Taylor and the ever dependable Fraser to open the bowling.

They were soon on top as wickets began to fall and quite surpnsingly, especially in recent times, catches were held. As Fraser strolled to his fourth wicket a jug looked inevitable until normal service was resumed and a catch went down at slip.

Tbis gave a lifeline to the Werrington innings as at 10 for 5 it was looking decidedly dodgy. With Fraser striving for that extra wicket, runs started to come a bit more frequently as each batsman in turn found the gap in the slips or managed to chip over a fielder before they fell to the irrepressible Taylor. Somehow the Werrington innings had clawed itself back to life and limped to 46 all out although opener Skinner carried his bat for a workmanlike 10.

A quick change of innings and Captain and vice captain, Kent and Tamblyn took it upon themselves to chase the total. As the innings began the wind changed direction and the big black clouds that had been hovering with a vicious intent on the horizon started to move closer. This resulted in a frantic run chase, which was hampered by some accurate and tight Werrington bowling. With the clouds almost above, Tamblyn and Kent both took one risk too many and there was only enough time for Rowe to copy their actions before the downpour came and the Taverners innings was suspended at 26 for 3.

Tea was taken and as the downpour continued it started to look less likely that the game would continue. Eventually the decision was made and the game was abandoned with Werrington rather happy with their eight points and St. Neot a little disappointed with their 11.

Scores - Werrington 46 (J Skinner 10, D Taylor 6-24, I Fraser 4-17). St Neot 26-3 (A Kent 14; Clark 2-4). Match abandoned due to rain, St Neot (11 pts), Werrington (8).
